“Hey there! I’m from Austria.” “Oh that’s nice. You must’ve got so many kangaroos over there!”… Austria ≠ Australia, they are two countries with a wagon load of differences. Traditional for though obviously not unique to Austria are things like baroque architecture, classical music, beautiful nature, ski resorts and of course the worldwide known and eaten ‘Wiener Schnitzel’!
On Wednesday, the 2nd of August 2000, I was gifted by Fortuna when it came to the lottery of life as I was privileged enough to be born in the tiny but amazingly beautiful country of Austria. Coincidence had placed my self in a picturesque tourist town named Salzburg whose greatest achievement is that once, a long time ago, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born there. Cool, I know.
With eight and a half million inhabitants at around 80.000km2, Austria surely is rather minuscule. Even though of this, it has quite a lot to offer, ranging from beautiful mountain and lake sceneries to genuinely atmospheric cities. Vienna, which once used to be the capital of the Habsburg Empire plus the capital of art back at that time, nowadays is the capital of Austria and one of Europe’s most iconic places. Other famous Austrian cities are the likes of Salzburg, Graz, Innsbruck, or Linz, which all have maintained their very much baroquish city centres throughout the past centuries. To be frank, it could be said that most Austrian accomplishments were made many years ago and have something to do with either food or music…
